Want to Sell on Poshmark? Here Are 5 Things You Need To Know!
If you are thinking about selling on Poshmark, keep reading for the 5 most important things you should know!
First, What is Poshmark?
They call themselves “the #1 place to buy and sell fashion.” The simple explanation though, is that it is an online marketplace to buy and sell things like any other (i.e. ebay, amazon, mercari), except they limit the types of items you can sell to women's, kids' and men's fashion and accessories, and select home goods. Poshmark is different from many other platforms in that they offer a unique social media approach to the marketplace with features such as shares, comments, likes and limited messaging. This encourages more social interaction between buyer and seller, except that they heavily restrict communication when there is a disagreement about a sold item between buyer and seller about a product. (For more about this, go here “How to Message Someone on Poshmark”)
Second, How Do You Get a Poshmark Sale?
Poshmark selling is the same as selling on other platform: you have an item to sell so you create a listing which includes pictures, price and description. That listing is added to your ‘closet’ (like a seller page), and then goes to the main feed (Poshmark home page) where people can randomly see it. If someone searches on Poshmark for anything matching your description, like specific brands of Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Louboutin and Lululemon, it will appear in their search results. Or if you have the feature turned on, if anyone searches Google for something Poshmark Shoes and you have a shoe listing in your closet, your item will be in their search results. If they like it, they buy it.
Third, How Does Poshmark Work for Sellers?
In addition to the simple how to get a sale on Poshmark in point two above, there are other things specific to being a seller on Poshmark versus other platforms. Poshmark seller fees are structured so that they take 20% of every sale - unless your item is priced under $15, then they only take $2.95. Poshmark shipping is a bit different too. The seller generally pays a flat rate of $6.79 for a shipping time of 1-3 day with USPS Priority Mail for all orders. You may offer a limited shipping discount or free shipping to your buyers and are expected to ship your item within 3 days of purchase. (For more about Poshmark shipping, go here “How to Ship on Poshmark”) Buyers can rate the sellers after they’ve received the product and add brief comments, Poshmark reviews apply to the seller (not the product) and although they are private (only you can see them), they can positively or negatively affect how often your products are seen and by who – for example a series of returns or bad reviews can choke your listings from showing up in the feeds or at the top of search results, so your items for sale are not seen as often or by as many people even if you are making the same marketing efforts. (For more about marketing efforts, go here“Tips for Selling on Poshmark”)
Fourth, What is a Poshmark Bundle?
The easiest explanation of a bundle is a shopping cart PLUS! All Poshmark accounts have a buyer bundle and seller bundle feature. The seller bundle is for a buyer to use when someone finds something in your ‘closet’ they want to buy, they put all the items in their bundle. Once there is at least one item in a bundle, you can send discounts/ ‘offers’ for the items in the bundle as well as shipping discounts, and you can communicate directly with the buyer privately (all non-bundle comments are public). You can use your seller bundle to style someone on Poshmark too. By sharing an item or items directly with a potential buyer you are adding those items to a bundle for them to consider purchasing! Now you know how to style someone on Poshmark! (For more about bundles, go here“How to Bundle on Poshmark”)
Fifth, Is Poshmark Worth It?
If you are reading Poshmark reviews to help you decide if you want to sell on Poshmark, keep in mind that the experience of being a Poshmark seller is a unique one; it is unique to what you want and how you want to sell. If, for example, you want to make bulk sales, a social platform may not be the best marketplace because it is geared to provide individual experience. In contrast, if you want to provide great personalize customer service, Poshmark may be a great fit. Selling on Poshmark will be worth it if the platform can align and support your goals; make sure you understand what your goals are before getting started and you will be better able to make the decision about using Poshmark or another marketplace for your sales.
