How to Ship on Poshmark
We’ll walk you through everything you need to know about Poshmark shipping!
Poshmark Shipping Cost
When an item is sold, either the buyer pays the standard $6.79 shipping fee as part of the purchase, or they pay $4.99 if the seller offered discount shipping, or they pay $0 if the seller offered free shipping. When sellers offer discounted shipping, $1.80 is automatically deducted from their sale profits by Poshmark. When sellers offer free shipping, $6.79 is automatically deducted from their sale profits by Poshmark.
Poshmark Shipping Time
Poshmark recommends that buyers allow 1-2 weeks to receive an order. There are two factors considered in the recommendation, the shipping time of the seller and of the United States Postal Service (USPS).
The Seller:
Once a seller gets the shipping label, they have 7 days to ship the item before the buyer can cancel the sale (Poshmark can also cancel the sale if the item has not shipped after 21 days, even if the buyer does not cancel the order). Although they technically have 6 days to send their items, really buyers are expected to ship their sold items within 3 days. Buyers can be motivated to be fast shippers because their average ship time displays on their “About” page and in order to reach Posh Ambassador status, they must have an average ship time of less than 3 days (For more information on the Posh Ambassador program go here: “What is a Poshmark Ambassador”).
The USPS:
Once the USPS receives the package, all orders are shipped as USPS Priority Mail so they are usually delivered in 1-3 days.
Other Helpful Info About Shipping on Poshmark
Once a purchase is completed, Poshmark will automatically email a pre-paid and pre-addressed USPS Priority Mail shipping label to the seller. The label comes with a tracking number that is linked to the sale so that both buyer and seller can see the shipping updates in Poshmark. The seller has to print the label, put the item(s) in a box (any USPS Priority Mail, Priority Flat Rate or Regional Rate Box), seal it and tape the label on- and then take it to the nearest USPS or drop it in a USPS box if it will fit. The tracking information is updated in Poshmark as the package makes its way to the buyer.
Many Posh sellers recommend taking your shipments to the USPS, waiting in line and having the item scanned in front of them and then taking a receipt. This ensures that the packaging and labels are correct for each package and that they were received by the postal service.
(A quick note on packaging…..you can get a large variety of shapes and sizes of free USPS shipping boxes and envelopes from your local USPS office and online at usps.com. Don’t feel obligated to buy custom shipping supplies such as themed boxes, envelopes, tape, tissue paper, stickers, ribbon and thank you cards. While these are nice to do, they may not make the best financial sense. For more information on this go here: “How to Make Money on Poshmark”)
What Happened to My Shipment?
Occasionally, a package will be delayed, forwarded, lost or damaged. Not to worry, with USPS Priority Mail (all Poshmark shipping labels are of this type) your package has a tracking number, insurance for up to $50 and is a flat rate for items weighing less than 5 pounds. If your package is delayed USPS can tell you for how long, if it is forwarded, they will know the new address even if you or Poshmark does not. Once in a while, a package can get “stuck” in forwarding mode. Contact Poshmark Customer Support and inform them of the issue, they may be able to get more information from USPS or the buyer. If the package is lost or damaged contact Poshmark.
Overnight Shipping
Poshmark does not offer an overnight shipping option. Some sellers have said they are able to take the existing label to their local USPS office and have it ‘upgraded’ to Priority Mail Express. USPS employees who understand this process (or are willing to do it) seem to be few, so overnight shipping requires the purchase of a separate shipping label which no longer provides Poshmark seller protection, so try it at your own risk.
